Brisbane’s Red Deer Music & Arts Festival returns for its seventh year this October, with a line-up peppered with household names and emerging talent.
The big draw is The Preatures, who’ll travel from Sydney to peddle their uptempo nostalgia rock. Co-headlining is The Kite String Tangle, the synth-heavy beat project of Brisbane’s Danny Harley.
“This year’s festival goers … can look forward to beautiful ballads, energetic roots, and rollicking tunes, before The Kite String Tangle and The Preatures bring the house down with two very different, entertaining sets,” festival co-founder Bas Pelly says. “We always strive to curate a line-up that’s musically diverse, featuring artists of national acclaim as well as shining a light on both local and interstate emerging talent.”
Red Deer will include its usual variety of live music, art installations and what it calls its “immersive camping experience”. And it will of course be BYO booze (“and couch”). For the first time, the festival will add a third music stage, focusing on regional and up-and-coming artists.
This year’s “space oddity”-themed edition will take place October 14 at the Mount Samson amphitheatre, 35 kilometres northwest of the city. A second helping of artists is to be announced in the next few weeks.
