For a long time event organisers seemed to ignore the Mount Coot-tha botanic gardens. Which is a shame, because in many ways it’s a much better precinct than the CBD’s ho-hum greenway.
But that might be changing. In October there was Carl Cox and Eric Powell’s mobile disco, and the Mt Coot-tha zip-line project is set to land next to Melaleuca Lake within the gardens.
And then there’s Sunset Cinema. The autumn film event lands in the Gardens for the first time this March, mixing up Oscar favourites, blockbuster sci-fi and comedy, golden oldies for your grandma and family films suitable for the kids.
Notable inclusions are opening night film Molly’s Game; the acclaimed Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Lady Bird and *The Post; and crowd-pleasers such as The Greatest Showman and Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature. 1980s classics The Breakfast Club and Dirty Dancing are also getting a screening.
Pack your own picnic if you please, but the event will also be serving food. Booze is by 4 Pines and Madfish, and a candy bar will be serving up popcorn and other treats.
Sunset Cinema runs March 15 to April 7 at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha. Tickets go on sale tomorrow here.
