We were promised a real-life Pac-Man-themed escape maze last year, and the details have finally arrived: it’s popping up at the Brisbane Powerhouse for two days in August.
From the team behind Brick Bar, Pac Maze is based on the iconic arcade game released in Japan in 1980, where players navigate through a maze to collect dots – and the elusive cherry. (The organisers of the event make clear in the fine print they're not associated with the official and trademarked Pac-Man.)
The maze involves solving puzzles and collecting cherries while dodging ghosts for a chance to win prizes. When a ghost catches you, you lose one of your three lives. Lose all your lives and it’s game over.
There will also be an ’80s “pixel room” with an OG Pac-Man game system and a DJ.
The maze will be open August 9 and 10 on the Powerhouse's Performance Lawn. The night sessions on both days, from 6pm to 11pm, are adults only. Children can attend as part of the family sessions on Saturday between 10am and 6pm.
