In an Australian first, Italy’s renowned Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company (La Scala Ballet) will perform exclusively in Brisbane later this year.

The 110-strong company includes more than 75 international principal and guest dancers who will showcase two productions from their classical repertoire: Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote and Giselle.

Don Quixote, a signature piece of the company, is based on Miguel de Cervantes’s classic novel and set in Spain with gypsy dances, fandangos, matadors and windmills.

Giselle is a contrast of sunny village life and a dark kingdom inhabited by spirits. It tells the story of a young peasant girl who dies of a broken heart.

La Scala, one of the most acclaimed ballet companies in the world, has a 240-year history, dating back to the 1778 inauguration of the opera house of the same name in Milan, Italy.

La Scala Ballet will perform Don Quixote and Giselle at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre from November 7–18. Tickets are now on sale here.
