Snug co-owners, and couple, Leaham Claydon and Jianne Jeoung met while working at neighbouring restaurants. Claydon was a sous-chef at Yoko (before leading the kitchen) and Jeoung a senior chef at Greca. Now, the pair are behind Snug – a humble cafe in Coorparoo which serves drinks, brunch and baked goods.
The brunch menu features Korean-inspired dishes like scrambled egg brioche sandwiches, omurice with prawns and a twist on Korean corn cheese with artichokes and provolone cheese. The house bakery selection is inspired by Korean cafe staples, like soft pretzels and salty butter rolls (folded like a croissant, with a generous chunk of butter inside). For coffee, there’s St Ali’s Wide Awake blend, a dark roast with chocolate and caramel notes.
On a trip to Korea, the duo handmade ceramic tableware with Jeoung’s aunties in Daejong, including plates, bowls, coffee cups and pour-over coffee makers – all of which have been put to use. The space itself offers a timeless aesthetic with lots of timber (including a striking custom benchtop by Makimaki), complemented by olive-green features and plants.
