Real-life Mario Kart has already hit the streets of Tokyo and more recently taken on Melbourne and Sydney. Now tickets are on sale for a Brisbane event later this year.

On November 17 and 18, you’ll get to head to the racetrack (its whereabouts, a mystery), pick your favourite character, then drive the course dressed as them, collecting stars to win prizes.

First release tickets are on sale now, with general tickets available from 12pm tomorrow. The ticket includes costume hire, CBD pick-up and drop-off, approximately 20 laps on track and games room activities. On the day, drivers will meet in the city and then be taken to a secret location for the race. Details on meeting points will be sent a week before the event.

Mushroom Racing (as it’s called in Australia) describes itself as “the rally of a lifetime”. A more accurate description might be “themed go karting in dress-ups.” While Tokyo’s version has racers zipping through city roads and backstreets, in Australia the events take place on enclosed circuits.

Tickets are $100 ($85, plus GST and a fee), with eight sessions available across the two days. Mushroom Racing warns that tickets are strictly limited. In short, don’t mess around.
