The drive to get more Aussies vaccinated continues in new and inspired ways. Earlier this month a new campaign was announced that rewards vaccinated Australians with cash prizes (including a jackpot up for grabs worth $1 million). While a Melbourne bakery launched a range of cakes plastered with phrases such as “Great jab!” “Yay, science” and “Poppin’ buttons for Sutton” (a reference to Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton).
Now, Bunnings is getting in on the act, with Queenslanders able to get a Covid-19 vaccine alongside their snag from this Saturday.
The very Aussie approach to raising vaccination uptakes was announced by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in state parliament this morning. “We're taking the vaccine to the people … there's no excuse,” she said.
Participating stores in South-East Queensland include Mt Gravatt, Stafford, North Lakes, Morayfield, Browns Plains, Brendale and Bethania.
Queensland's vaccine roll-out is currently at 70.2 per cent for the first dose and 52.7 per cent for the second dose, which is lagging behind all states but Western Australia.
The phrase “post-vax snacks” has entered the Broadsheet vernacular among our Melbourne teammates. So why not knock-off both in one go? Those getting their second jab should reward themselves with a second snag while they're at it.
