A serious crash is causing lengthy delays near Brisbane airport this morning. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

Emergency services were contacted around 9.35am with reports of a three-vehicle collision on the northbound section of Southern Cross Way at the highway’s intersection with Toombul Road in Northgate.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed to the Courier Mail that the crash was serious and a female driver was trapped in her vehicle after a collision with a semitrailer. A Queensland Police spokesman told the Courier that there is fuel and debris on the road.

Traffic has been building behind the crash; a delay of 15 minutes is currently expected. The backup currently extends to the Airport Drive exit of the highway, affecting those approaching the airport via Kingsford Smith Drive.
