Brisbane may be in line to get two ambitious northern and eastern transitways – if Queensland returns a Labor government at the November 25 state election.
The plan involves setting aside $75 million to extend the Northern Busway beyond Kedron by adding dedicated bus lanes all the way to Chermside, improving traffic flow along the infamously stop-start Gympie Road.
The eastern plan would include an extension of the Eastern Busway; buses would be given priority between Cavendish Road and Creek Road. Improved pedestrian and cycle access would also be added.
“For those locals travelling in peak-hour traffic, they will see significantly reduced travel times,” Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Jackie Trad is quoted in the Brisbane Times as saying.
Trad says in the same report that more than six million passenger trips were made on the Eastern and Northern busways in the past year.
