Supernormal Brisbane, the sequel to Andrew McConnell’s Melbourne restaurant of the same name, was a long time coming. While sibling venue Bar Miette opened by surprise a few weeks in advance, Supernormal is the one Queensland diners had been waiting almost two years for. Truly, it was worth the wait.

Drawing inspiration from Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong, the menu shares DNA with the Melbourne original – featuring a raw bar, dumplings, and shared mains – and includes Supernormal signatures such as the half crispy duck and those lobster rolls. However, the offering is in no way a carbon copy of its southern counterpart; instead, it is led by Southeast Queensland’s produce and climate.

Then there’s the venue itself, which is a drastic departure. From the green terrazzo floor to the carved timber bar (designed to evoke tropical trees), everything about the ACME-designed space nods to its riverside location and Queensland’s natural beauty. Floor-to-ceiling windows and faceted mirrors offer views of the Story Bridge to every seat in the house.
