It’s Willow and Spoon’s monthly dinners that keep customers coming back.

One month, you could be eating an Asian-inspired banquet of tempura scallops and Penang curry; the next, wild game such as kangaroo and crocodile. Of course, themed dinners aren’t out of the ordinary for many restaurants in Brisbane – but Willow and Spoon applies this concept to the most important meal of the day.

When the cafe isn’t hosting themed dinners, it’s a retro kitsch spot serving Blue Sky coffees and ingenious brunches. Well-worn op shop tables and pre-loved couches line the dining room, while a spacious backyard covered in astroturf offers ample room for the kids to run around.

Don’t expect a stock standard menu of smashed avocado and poached eggs, though. Instead, there are dishes such as smoked salmon on quinoa cakes, or rosemary lamb sausages with creamy polenta and an intense master stock gravy.

A separate kids’ menu is also available, featuring Belgian waffles with fresh berries and grilled bacon and cheese Turkish toast.
