Though it’s located in the thoroughfare between Charlotte and Elizabeth Streets, Strauss is easy enough to spot. Just look for the seating stretching up the laneway, and the bench filled with people waiting for takeaways. The coffee is that good.

Strauss developed its own blend (half Guatemala La Soledad, half Honduras Liquidambar) with Coffee Supreme. It starts serving from 6.30am and offers a range of rotating single origins and various filter blends from the V60s meticulously brewing away on the counter top.

Efficiency is the focus here. There’s a limited but well-thought-out menu offering two salads, two sandwiches and the popular Strauss Bruschetta, plus a few other staples. In part, that’s because space is so limited. Thankfully it doesn’t feel cramped, thanks to high ceilings and strategic lighting.

For those looking to unwind after a long day, or simply enjoy a glass of wine at lunch, Strauss offers the core range of beers from Green Beacon, various cocktails and featured wines that change regularly.
