Small Talk Espresso
Despite its recent transition into new ownership following previous owner De Leon's move to sell, the charm had by Small Talk Espresso remains strong. Housing a bank in it's last life, the building this coffee hub calls home was a little concrete vault.
The underground space is small, but full of personal touches: kids’ drawings, jokes and tongue-in-cheek memes stuck to the coffee machine. It feels friendly and inviting.
The cafe’s exclusive coffee blend, The Paddington, was created after hours of tasting. The idea worked – when people find this place they tend to stick around. A steady stream of regulars drop in throughout the day.
The food is simple but enticing. There are lemon myrtle breakfast bars, savoury quiches, rich brownies and the occasional Vietnamese special, reflecting De Leon’s background.
Small Talk is pretty uninterested in trends and reinventing the coffee brewing wheel. It’s not the place to come for pour-overs and the latest gadgetry. But you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more consistent cup or better vibe anywhere else in Paddington.
