A few out-of-state coffee brands have set up roastery operations in Brisbane. The biggest names are Veneziano and St Ali from Melbourne, and even Coffee Supreme from New Zealand has had a crack at the local market.

Seven Miles is among the first Sydney-based brands to join the fray, opening a micro-roastery and training headquarters in Albion’s Craft’d Grounds precinct at the end of 2021.

The 400-square-metre facility houses a 30-kilogram roaster with capacity to roast two-and-a-half tonnes of coffee a week, plus a neat espresso bar slotted into the side of Craft’d Grounds’ refurbished timber-mill space.

At the compact counter operation, you'll find espresso courtesy of a three-group Dalla Corte Zero machine, alongside various filter options. It’s also serving cakes from Floss Bakes while it waits for a neighbouring patisserie tenant to move into the building.

A retail section is stocked with equipment, merchandise, single origins and blends, as well as gift packs such as the After Dark Espresso Martini box set.

The setup is geared for takeaway, but customers can also hang out at the bar and watch the roasting process in action. Cupping events and latte art training sessions are held regularly, so there's plenty here to entice budding baristas.
