Microlot Coffee House

Tuesday
5:30am - 1:30pm
5 135 Riding Road Hawthorne 4171

When a cafe actually owns the farm the coffee beans come from, you know it’s taking things seriously. At Microlot, the Colombian beans used as part of the house blend “Meraki” (along with Ethiopian beans) come from the farm of Calder Dryden.

The other owners, Mia and Simon Mylonas, have plenty of experience in coffee and food, respectively – Simon in the kitchen at Strauss, and Mia pulling espresso at The Odyssey Project.

Passion for quality is clearly what drives the team at Microlot. But refreshingly, there’s no pious posturing over the cups here. Any of the team will be happy to chat to you about how the beans are pulling today. The atmosphere is casual and unassuming.

Food is limited to toast, a selection of pastries from Le Sebastien, and baked goods from Countertop Cakes.

The panela (unrefined sugar) on the tables is imported from Colombia and the chai is hand-ground from Sri Lankan spices. If you care about the coffee you drink, from the people who farm it, right down to how it was roasted and brewed, this could be your new favourite spot.
