Josie North is an unexpected find on one of Toowong’s busiest commercial strips. It’s hidden at the end of a nondescript arcade alongside a hairdresser’s and a ramen joint.

Owner Matt Roggenkamp chose the location as a play on Melbourne laneway culture, where beautiful cafes are often found at the end of dingy alleys.

Formerly the chef at The Single Guys, Roggenkamp’s love of coffee runs just as deep as his love of food. At Josie North, he serves the type of brews you’d expect from an alumnus of The Single Guys. Choose between roasts from Seven Seeds, Small Batch and Wood and Co.

Like anything, coffee is seasonal. Roggenkamp chose these roasters because they source the freshest coffee internationally, depending on the time of year. All the blends are displayed on the counter, and filter coffee is also on offer.

On food there’s a breakfast burger with a sausage patty, open sandwiches and sweets from Alphabet Cafe.
