Hawthorne Coffee is a small, light-filled cafe on leafy Riding Road by Tom Wilcock of Currumbin’s Bancroft Roasters. Splashed with pastel colours, the space inside has just five tables, with a small outside area for four-legged friends and a window for takeaway.

The compact kitchen serves up sourdough toasties and house-baked muffins. Toasties range from classic options (picture ham, tomato, cheese and aioli) to more elaborate combinations such as thyme, garlic, spinach and truffle mushrooms. Breakfast options include staples like avocado on toast, an acai bowl and a bacon and egg muffin.

Pastries are supplied by Brasserie Bread, and muffins rotate seasonally with flavour combinations such as raspberry and white chocolate, and blueberry and lemon curd.
