Coffee Head Co
Coffee Head Co is inspired by a Peruvian temple. It also operates until 6pm Sunday to Friday and through to midnight on Saturdays. It’s not an obvious combination, but it works. It’s one of the few places in town where it’s possible to get a good coffee after 3pm. On a deadline? In the weeds with assignments? Coffee Head is where to go.
This isn’t a lazy filter or big-box espresso afterthought either. Coffee Head runs Valley specialty coffee outfit Bellissimo’s Ultimo variation on Italian dark roast, backed by Melbourne hot chocolate brand Mörk’s 65 per cent dark milk river salt and 70 per cent original dark blends. There’s also a selection of AR-T fair-trade organic teas from the Sunshine Coast.
For food Flour of Life Bakery provides a range of vegan baked goods, available until midnight every day. Porter and Leiva are also importing fancy Peruvian La Iberica vegan and milk chocolate bars. In future, vegan desserts and cheesecake will be added to the menu.
The shop itself is near the old Expo 88 Skyneedle on Manning Street. It’s a straightforward space with floor-to-ceiling windows and a heap of Chavín-style art scattered about the dark walls. A scarlet chesterfield couch is the defining feature, particularly after the sun goes down when the cafe takes on the feel of a moody, caffeinated bolthole.
