The Oxford Tap House
Bulimba is not short on eateries, but drinking holes are another thing altogether. Before the taps began flowing at The Oxford Tap House, locals had to hop across the river to find a good drop of craft beer.
This was the dilemma facing Jerard Hartnett and Gillian Letham (also of The Mill on Constance), who can’t get enough of hanging around bars. They wanted somewhere local to spend their days off, so together with business partner Anya Bogatek, they transformed a real estate office into a bar.
Affectionately known as The Ox, the bar focuses on Australian beer (with the exception of a few New Zealand brews), with six rotating taps showcasing beer and cider produced by our fair countrymen. Add in the selection of bottled beers always on hand and you have some serious decision-making to do.
But it’s not just the beer list that lures punters in. The grazing food menu matches the quality set by the taps, with most menu items made entirely from scratch.
This includes pork terrine and chicken liver parfait, as well as charcuterie meats the chef cures and hangs in-house.
