Good food, craft beer and staff that remembers your name. That’s the rationale behind Suburban Social Neighbourhood Bar and Kitchen in Chapel Hill.

A relaxed vibe and commitment to Australian producers characterises Suburban Social. The beers on tap are Newstead Brewing Co and Stone & Wood, and the wine is all-Australian. Even the soft drinks are supplied by Melbourne outfit Capi; the spiced cola goes down well on a hot day.

The food is well-executed gastropub fare: burgers; flathead fish tacos; and the tongue-in-cheek Suburban Snack Pack that replaces doner-kebab meat with slow-cooked chicken. Hotheads shouldn’t miss the “RIP” spicy chicken wings, and there is takeaway lunch for those on the go.

The bar sits in a light-filled space off Moggill Road. There are turquoise tiles fronting the bar and a graffitied wall mural. Dadson and Dillon did the fit-out themselves, recycling structural timber and other materials from the space’s previous incarnation as a home-brew store.
