Housed on the former site of the Kwan Wo Noodle Factory (hence the name), this eclectic Asian eatery is a tribute to Hong Kong glam nightlife, and the 1970s suburban Chinese restaurant.

Owner Damian Griffiths (Alfred & Constance, Alfredo’s Pizzeria, Doughnut Time, Limes Hotel, Chester Street Bakery) completed his takeover of the vibrant Alfred Street block with Kwan Brothers.

Beneath its neon-studded surface lies a melting pot of Asia’s greatest hits: red oriental fonts, retro-style fried rice served in hollowed-out pineapples and dishes from Singapore’s hawker markets, Tokyo’s boisterous izakayas and Bangkok’s food street carts.

Bonus points if you can find the secret bar, the perfect spot to treat your date to a cocktail such as the chilli vodka-infused Missionary’s Damnation. Then there’s the dance floor with shiny disco balls looming.

The food is made for sharing. Try coal-fired Berkshire pork belly skewers; or Peking duck noodles with 63-degree egg. For large groups, the eight-course banquet menu is recommended, featuring crispy pork belly and pineapple fried rice.

For an extra $10, enjoy a Kwan Brothers happy ending (aka dessert) such as deep fried bao ice-cream sandwiches, or banana fritters with cinnamon and roasted coconut ice cream.
