** Jessie’s Girl is due to open in mid-July.
No, it’s not about the Rick Springfield song.
Susannah Whitehouse and Candy Smith’s new bar, Jessie’s Girl, instead references both the street it’s located on and its slightly feminine vibe; it’s a bit camp and a bit fun.
It will open in the former premises of Hops, Scotch and Beans. It’s handily located down the road from Whitehouse and Smith’s other venue, Scout, the hugely popular cafe the pair opened in 2013.
The bar will be colourfully decorated with ’80s references and sport a bright, neon logo.
Drinks will also have an ’80s focus – think white wine spritzers and Espresso Martinis. A “boozy brunch” will be offered from Friday to Sunday. It’s still in the works but Whitehouse wants a Bloody Mary on tap and is looking at creating other breakfast cocktails.
The food menu is yet to be finalised but expect dishes with a European slant.
Jessie’s Girl will open on the corner of Jessie Street and Petrie Terrace in mid-July.
