Using his father’s time-honoured recipe, Naples pizza chef Ruben De Stefano hand makes dough daily to produce crispy wood-fired pizzas straight from the bright yellow tiled oven, known affectionately by Communal’s chefs as "Big Bird".

This relaxed gastropub in Brisbane Square attracts a casual corporate crowd during the week, and a more relaxed family set on weekends. With long bar tables outside (and flat screens perched above), the restaurant inside offers a more intimate and air-conditioned alternative.

Communal’s menu offers share plates, burgers, salads and snacks designed by executive chef Rhett Willis (formerly of MasterChef and Jellyfish Restaurant). Take the idea of communal dining from the menu to the bar and order a cocktail jug to share, or choose from craft beers and a solid wine list.
