Rosey’s Cafe is quirky as they come. Former owner Rosey Hume – who sold up in 2019 but still runs the newer Rosey's in Aldinga – worked at the location’s previous cafe as a dishwasher when she was 15. She returned to make her mark on the venue by sourcing some wood from the old Point Turton Jetty to make the bar.

Things escalated to include goldfish swimming in an old portable TV, bottles of liquor hanging from an elaborate pulley system above the counter and a knife embedded into the exit as a door handle.

The food is comparatively conventional, with all-day breakfast including pumpkin-rye with roasted beetroot, pea and goat’s curd; zucchini-and-haloumi fritters; and raisin French toast with poached rhubarb, pistachios and mascarpone.

Lunch options are written on the specials “board”, which is pulled from a giant roll of butcher’s paper attached to the wall. De Groot Coffee is pulled from the La Marzocco by barista Peter Fong, who also provides the intricate illustrations that feature on the menu.

There’s a range of drinks that make use of the pulley system including those morning classics, Bloody Mary and Mimosa, as well as a gin and tonic for those that don’t feel restricted by morning convention. Rosey’s is guaranteed not to judge, anyway.
