South Australia has been named one of Lonely Planet’s top regions to visit in 2017.

Our home state ranks a comfortable fifth in the top 10 list, which is featured in the international travel bible’s Best in Travel 2017 publication.

The influential guide describes SA as a “delicious feast suitable to anyone’s taste,” citing our wineries, produce festivals, outback vistas and un-spoilt beaches as key reasons to visit.

The number-five ranking comes in behind Choquequirao in Peru, Taranaki in New Zealand, The Azores in Portugal and North Wales in the United Kingdom.

In 2014 Adelaide was listed in Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Cities of the World. Curiously, SA was the only Australian state left off the list when the travel guide published a Best of Australia guidebook earlier this year. What a difference a year makes.

A celebratory block party will be held this Friday from 5pm to 10pm along West End laneways Peel Street, Gilbert Place and Leigh Street. There will be street food and pop-up bars from local traders. More details here.
