St Peters Bakehouse
Features
When Damien Obst first took over a little corner store in the eastern suburbs, word spread quickly about his range of traditional Australian pies and cakes. Now, the queue spills out onto the street well before lunchtime.
Coffee-starved mums line up beside white- and blue-collar workers after a sausage roll and a Farmers Union. Best to arrive early and dibs a table inside or on the verandah for views of tree-lined Seventh Avenue.
Chunky beef pies are a house favourite, but variations include mushroom, pepper and potato. No matter which you choose, they’re best straight from the paper bag with a spurt of tomato sauce. Lighter offerings include sandwiches and rolls made fresh to order, with soups and salads complementing whatever the weather’s up to.
The renowned chocolate doughnuts will satisfy any sweet craving, unless you’d prefer an old-fashioned finger bun, vanilla slice or jelly cake instead.
St Peters Bakehouse expanded in 2016 meaning you can now grab one of those famous chocolate doughnuts in Torrensville or Ridgehaven, too.
