Hanging in the rear of retro treasure-trove Vintage Vulture, barely visible in the dim lamplight, the words “Everything Is For Sale” can just be made out. The sign is displayed above racks and racks of hifi components, records, instruments, furniture, gadgets and more. Some items are tagged, others are priced on the spot, depending on how attached to them owner Josh Quinn is.

Quinn is a keen-eyed scrapper, incessant tinkerer and borderline hoarder. Vintage Vulture opened in 2016 – a predictable manifestation of his various “hobbies” – and has since doubled in size.

The store primarily trades in high-end audio equipment, meticulously restored at a 1950s kitchen table-come-workbench (also for sale). Two fashion racks stand by the entrance. The rest of the floor is crowded with oddments and one-off pieces of Quinn’s own creation, such as the fan-lamp (“flamp”) and an antique dressmaker’s dolly that’s been given a proton lamp “head”.

A modest stage in the centre of the space is regularly taken by renowned and aspiring players. After dark, the venue transitions into a sort of speakeasy. Thursday Night Jazz (known to regulars by another, more irreverent, Family Guy -inspired title) occurs on the first Thursday of every month, and Quinn is looking to add further music nights.
