Sometimes it seems as if there's a juice bar on every corner, but until late 2015, that didn’t include the Central Markets. Big Table owner Angelo Likouras decided to fill that niche when the stall opposite his became vacant, which is now home to Plantation Juice Company.

East End Studios’ Sam Weckert revived the former tourist information kiosk with repurposed fittings and long timber benchtops. The result is akin to a beach shack that gets draped with fresh fruit every morning.

Custom orders are welcome, but if you need inspiration the menu is always rotating to incorporate seasonal produce. Plantation is inside a market, after all. Vegan, gluten-free suggestions include coconut-water quenchers, smoothies, fresh juices and energy shots. There are plenty of dairy options, too.

The most popular items are the smoothie bowls topped with “buckinis” (buckwheat cereals) and fresh fruit. It’s best to grab a seat to enjoy these, at either one of the bar benches or in Big Table’s adjacent dining area.

Other food options include porridge (in winter), muesli and flavoured chia puddings. The staff will even make chia-pudding birthday cakes on request, which are layered and topped with flowers.
