Pineapple Vintage
Pineapple Vintage was once a tiny, dilapidated floor renovation business. New owners Lauren and Sam McLaren were lucky to get their hands on the place, after starting negotiations with the property owner by popping a note in their letterbox.
The McLarens are Gilles Street Market veterans of four years. Many more years of vintage addiction resonate throughout their store, manifest in the colourful panoply of vintage clothing, accessories, shoes, jewellery and snazzy pineapple-strewn decor.
Recycled shelving and handmade racks accommodate surplus from their personal collections, topped up with pieces painstakingly selected from local and international markets, garage sales, op-shops and online sources.
Centrestage is an eye-catching vintage counter with brightly painted doors, salvaged from a garage sale. It contrasts beautifully with the green terrazzo floors layered with woven rugs. A handpainted mural created by Adelaide artist Kaspar Schmidt Mumm draws you through into the back room, where further discoveries await.
While all eras are welcome at Pineapple Vintage, Lauren’s passion for ’80s quirk is palpable. Multicoloured happy pants lounge in the back room while suave jumpsuits and tassled leather jackets mingle in the front. Pricing is refreshingly affordable, with more elaborate items priced accordingly.
