Eighty is the magic number at The Grind. That is how many varieties of coffee it has. And there are more than that of tea.

Bean dispensers line the walls of the store, with the glossy coffee shining behind coloured labels explaining origin, flavour and price. Gleaming French presses and percolators are stacked to the stall’s ceiling; squat teapots and chrome milk jugs are packed into the remaining space.

Among all this, there’s an espresso machine and an enthusiastic barista tirelessly churning out takeaway coffee for the little queue that never seems to diminish.

It’s a remarkable shop. Need a one-of-a-kind blend? Feeling picky about your single origins? Want your beans ground to a particular fineness? This is why The Grind exists.

It has also caught on to the Nespresso craze, making cafe-grade pods for everyday use. Pods are often criticised for their contribution to global waste. They’re too small to be sorted at conventional recycling plants, so ultimately end up in landfill. But The Grind has a solution: its pods are reusable.
