Features
Monique Thomas and Olivia Mangan racked up experience in the clothing resale industry before opening Goodbyes’s first shop in Melbourne in 2015. Today, they help others enjoy the democratising experience of shopping seconds first.
The first South Australia outpost on Rundle Street broadens a network that already spans Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra. Like many of its other outposts, the shop’s design is industrial leaning – open-plan, clad in light-grey concrete with sage-green details throughout.
Each Goodbyes store takes in between 800 to 1000 meticulously hand-picked pieces per week. It aims to showcase high-quality garments that will last through different owners – so you'll find pieces that showcase good construction, good fabrics and classic, timeless styles. Each garment's time on the rack is capped at seven weeks, so you're likely to find new pieces on each visit. Sales are on consignment, with sellers receiving a cut of the final price – and anyone can play.
