Local artist Fruzsi Kenez is best known for her quirky and distinctive portraits of rosy-cheeked, headscarf-wearing characters set in colourful, woodsy wonderlands.

After returning from a year in Tokyo, Kenez set up her own studio and shop to house all of these whimsical creations, based at Norwood creative hub Brick+Mortar.

The shop is a physical expansion of her online Etsy label, Peach Patrol, stocking hand-painted illustrations, cards, stickers and pocket mirrors. Each of Kenez’s pieces combines elements of Australia, Japan and Eastern Europe, holding stories of things she’s seen, places she’s travelled and people she’s met on her adventures.

Ceramics also feature, each one a unique piece with a rustic hand-made finish. Her Stormy Seas collection is inspired by the beauty and simplicity of nature, with dishes, spoons and bottles capturing the intense colour and powerful, moody energy of turbulent waters.

Kenez runs small workshops in her shop, teaching people the fundamentals of hand-forming clay so that they too can run wild with their imaginations, fuelled by cups of vegan hot chocolate from the cafe downstairs.
