Yen Linh isn’t named after a person. It’s two: sisters Yen and Linh Le are two of four people behind this authentic Vietnamese restaurant. It is also owned by their parents Mai Luong and Tri Le, who opened the venue in 2004.

The interior has remained unchanged since then. But because of its popularity, this hasn’t been a problem. The eatery has typical suburban charm, with a large television in the dining area, white lighting and sturdy high-back chairs. Le runs the busy kitchen, making sure meals are executed as per family recipes.

The food is inexpensive and traditional. Alongside pho, bun bowls and wrap-your-own cold rolls, you’ll find fermented fish soups and chewy tapioca noodles. For vegetarians, there is a number of tofu and vegetable dishes over rice or with stir-fried noodles.

Imported Vietnamese beers are available to drink and the service is friendly and efficient. For dessert there’s traditional shaved ice, Three Colour Bean, with cooked sweet-beans, jelly and coconut milk.

Following customer demand for a city location, Luong and Le expanded to a site near the Adelaide Central Markets in 2015. The second restaurant serves a near-identical menu but also offers banh mi rolls at lunch.
