Named after a Beatles tribute supergroup, Yellow Matter is a sleek brewery by the crew at inner west cafe Karma & Crow. Adelaide-born Tristan Barlow (former head brewer at Melbourne’s Bodgriggy Brewing Co) is behind the beers, which range from a bright and summery Berliner Weisse to a smooth and chocolatey stout.

To eat, you’ll find vegetarian pizzas ferrying non-traditional toppings. When Broadsheet visited, highlights included shio-koji mushroom and buffalo mozzarella; and beetroot, rocket, pomegranate molasses and vegan mozzarella. Pizzas can be made gluten-free, and most can be made vegan.

Unlike a lot of breweries, this one has a spritzes, lo-fi wines and an extensive non-alcoholic list. Yellow Matter doesn’t look like your average brewery, either. The beautiful, mid-century-style space is all curtains, curves and arches. Plus, there’s a pool table and dog-friendly setting that add to the convivial community vibes.
