They met, they fell in love, they travelled the world for 10 years. Then chefs Daniel Blencowe and Amy Zammit finally returned home, to open New Local Eatery. The concept was simple: to re-create their favourite dishes from their travels, the ones they enjoyed making for family and friends.

To keep things interesting, the duo changes the main menu four or five times a year. The lunch menu is refreshed every couple of weeks. Expect touches of the Mediterranean, Asia, India and the Middle East in dishes such as slow roasted pork belly, green chilli and galangal curry; pan-fried local Tommy Ruff; and Persian stuffed zucchini.

The wine list is mostly local and makes alternative varieties the stars. The beer list includes Pirate Life, Brew Boys and Pikes.

Blencowe and Zammit discovered the Hindmarsh location on Gumtree and spent three months reinventing the dark space in 2015. The light and airy restaurant features prints by Adelaide-born artist Stewart McFarlane on the walls. A large mirror towards the back of the room creates a spacious feel. Downstairs, a 32-seat space is available for functions.

There are no rules at New Local – you’re welcome to pop in for a coffee or glass of wine, or stay for a three-course meal. The pre-show menus will get you well-fed and next door to the Entertainment Centre in time for curtain-up.
