Cherry Burger combines retro American diner looks (straight out of Grease) with a local, produce-driven menu. Beef and chicken are sourced from Austral Meat in Gepps Cross; Japanese-style milk buns come from Port Adelaide’s Skala Bakery; Adelaide-owned Jolt Cola looks after soft drink; and local Amscol ice-cream is used in thick shakes, soft serves and sundaes.

The menu is straightforward, but deftly executed. For burgers choose from chicken, veggie and beef (with double-ups available). For sides the house fries are shoestring, and there’s also tater tots (potato gems) and nuggets.

Cherry also collaborates with industry heavy-hitters for one-off guest burgers. Past highlights include a peri peri burger and a chicken tenders box by Africolachef Duncan Welgemoed.

The gleaming red and white facade is matched inside by the throwback interiors: lipstick-red upholstery, old-school signage and neon lights. There’s even good-old fashioned table service after ordering at the front counter.
