Relaxed, wholesome and “a little bit nauti" is how Nauti Buoy co-owner and head chef Renee Lind describes her breezy all-day eatery, set directly opposite Henley Beach.
As the name suggests, the cool and clean fit-out leans into the nautical vibe – but this isn’t a summer-specific spot. The team, which also consists of Dylan Auciello, Danny Cooray and Harrison Raphael of Loverboy nightclub and Studio Spring, wanted to open the kind of place you could visit during winter as well as summer, hence the fireplace and seasonal menus. But of course, strolling in with sand still clinging to your ankles in the warmer months is a serious vibe here.
Head chef and fourth co-owner Renee Lind (ex- Peter Rabbit) masterminds the menu, which is fun, light and heroes sustainably produced local products. She says the chicken sandwich has quite the reputation on Instagram, but she also backs the housemade tofu dish with sweet potato, citrus cashew cream, and butternut hummus. (That one is both vegan and gluten-free.)
At night, Nauti Buoy’s tapas is perfect for groups to enjoy with a cocktail or wine. In summer you might snack on a wedge of triple-cream brie with fermented passionfruit honey. And when winter kicks in, the menu flips to match the stormy seaside weather.
