303 by the Sea

7:30am - 4:00pm
303 Seaview Road Henley Beach 5022

For partners Alex Smith and Rik Fisher, 303 By The Sea weaves together everything they love – brunch, cake, coffee and a life lived by the ocean.

It’s a welcome seachange for Smith (former fine dining chef and manager of the Loose Caboose) and Fisher, who jumped ship from the family business to manage front of house.

Two months and four coats of paint saw the once derelict continental deli transformed into a bustling beachside cafe in December 2015. Everything on display was painted, created or sourced by extended family, including the reclaimed timber tables spanning the windows. The paddleboard is a visible reminder for the pair to hit the water in summer.

Smith draws her inspiration from the seasons and her taste buds – she eats a lot of food. Her breakfast and brunch-focused menu changes every three months, and might see you score a vanilla bean yoghurt panna cotta with honey-toasted granola and bee pollen, or grilled asparagus with prosciutto, halloumi, salsa and soft-poached egg. Cakes and sweet treats are made in-house using Smith’s mum’s recipes, topped up with selections from Mayfair Bakery.

Organic Rio coffee beans brewed in the matte white La Marzocco espresso are blended with Adelaide Hills Tweedvale milk or Milklab alternatives. Juices, smoothies and homemade sodas round out the offerings.
