Red Berry Espresso Coffee Roastery
Nothing at Red Berry Espresso is just for show. From the hessian coffee sacks against the counter to the road bike hanging on the wall, Walter D’Addario’s twin passions are front and centre in his Glenside roastery – a mecca for cyclists and coffee-heads alike.
In the morning, Red Berry is bustling with riders going to and from the tough ascents in the Adelaide Hills. But by no means are they the only ones making the pilgrimage.
Here, the day’s offerings are selected from an ever-changing stable of single origin coffees, and each and every bean is roasted on site. D’Addario employs a lighter roast than is common, revealing the unique characters of beans grown in different regions and climates. Even two sides of the same mountain can produce contrasting flavours.
There is more to Red Berry than just the coffee, though. A modest selection of pastries and sandwiches are available. As are spare bike tubes, for those who need them. But ultimately, the focus is always on the coffee itself: by the cup, by the (cold drip) bottle, and by the bag (ground to your liking). Stop by and you might even learn something new.
