With the launch of its new Up Late menu a week ago, La Boca Bar & Grill has joined the handful of venues in Adelaide offering dinner late into the night.
Walk past the fiery Argentinian asado grill late on a Friday or Saturday night and you’ll see guests in cosy booths sharing platters of La Boca’s signature asado-grilled steak and crispy-skin pork belly. Take a seat at the bar and sip smooth cocktails, Argentinian sangrias or top-shelf spirits while listening to chilled beats from local and interstate DJs.
It’s a marked change from the club-like experience formerly offered in the space beneath the Stamford Plaza. “With the growing small-bar trend in Adelaide people are looking for a more refined experience,” says Stamford Hotel’s Jessica Battams. “Now it’s about long drinks and cocktails, time to relax and socialise. It’s no longer about going out and getting smashed on base spirits.”
Chef Nicolas Arriola knew any late-night offerings would revolve around the asado. How could it not, when the scents of meat and seafood grilling over hot coals spreads through the restaurant and out onto the street? “We’re doing what we do at any barbeque with family or friends,” he adds. “A lot of customers come in with a story to tell about how they grill at home, so it’s really turned into a bit of a barbeque forum. That’s what we want to extend with Up Late.”
