From an Alberton takeaway joint that doesn’t skimp on spice, and two-hander banh mis, to layered laksas and consistently great margherita pizzas, these are the spots to hit up when you can’t be bothered to cook.

When it comes to dining out, Adelaide is spoilt for choice. From all-time favourites to impressive newcomers, there’s no shortage of great bars and restaurants to hit up for a meal out on the town. But sometimes – particularly as it gets colder – the idea of rugging up, wrestling with an umbrella and heading out is just a little too much.

Enter takeaway. We asked seven of Adelaide’s best chefs where they go for a quick takeaway and what they order when they get there.

Mother India Kitchen on Port Road. It’s a hidden takeaway shop in Alberton. They don’t hold back on the spice, and I love them for that.”
Daniella Guevara Munoz of La Popular Taqueria

“The competition for the best burger in South Australia is pretty tough, but the Caro Club in Bowden has my vote. Or, when I’m in the city, I can’t look past a panini from Lucia’s.”
Callum Hann of Olive

“Asian Gourmet from the Adelaide Central Market. Their Sarawak laksa, whenever it’s available, is an absolute must-try. It’s a delicious broth that is layered with roasted spices. I always look forward to this one.”
Josh Cooke of Rozelle’s and Chianti

“My favourite spot for a quick sandwich on the go is Bottega Bandito. The sopressa sando is unreal and some truffle fries on the side are a must.”
Jamie Musgrave of Restaurant Botanic

“Pizza Lola. It’s unpretentious and relatable. The staff always remember you and the dough is unreal. Order the margherita. When a venue nails simplicity, you know you’re onto something good.”
Wilson Shawyer of Good Gilbert and Good Burger

“I’m a sucker for a banh mi. There’s a place near us at Arkhe named VDR on the Parade. I get the combo chicken and pork banh mi and it never disappoints.”
Jake Kellie of Arkhe

Sunny’s Pizza. The traditional margherita is my favourite; it’s simple and consistent.”
Simon Ming of Ode
