Manager Jaime Fraser started the 12pm to 4pm late breakfasts at Thrift Shop Bar because he loves a decent feed after a long shift. Now, what started as a brunch option for hospitality workers, is also for the public.
“I wanted to go somewhere in the city for brunch,” he says. “But I don’t get up until 2pm. There aren’t many places for hospo people to go when they’ve been working until 3am the night before.”
Bottomless filter coffee and Bloody Marys round off a menu of wake-me-ups. Cocktails include a gin-based breakfast Martini, Mimosas, and Espresso Martinis, all made using Australian spirits.
On Sundays, dining tables are moved into the bar and seating for 36 is spread across the bar’s interior and beer garden. As extra incentive to get out of bed, hospitality workers get 20 per cent off food and drink.
If you prefer your booze in the evening, a new winter cocktail menu is primarily made of drinks served warm. Life By Chocolate (house chocolate fudge liqueur with coconut cream and a dash of port) and mulled cider are highlights.
