Thanks in part to improved canning technologies and mere practicality, canned beer has enjoyed a resurgence in Australia – and it’s no longer reserved for craft brew brands.

Local beer giant Coopers will release its top-selling pale ale in a can in August. The popular brew tops the pale ale market in Australia with a 32.5 per cent share, says Coopers sales and marketing director Cam Pearce.

“With increasing consumer demand for a can format, now is the right time to release our flagship product in a can,” Pearce said in a press release.

“Consumer demand ‎for beer in cans has accelerated over the past few years as we see cans appealing to a wider audience and also for those occasions where drinkers are looking for the versatility and convenience that a can format offers.”

The new can option was inspired by the recent, successful launch of Coopers Session Ale, which is available in both bottles and cans.

Coopers has also announced that its canned Dr Tim’s brand will be retired from its portfolio, as a result of the pale ale release.
