“When we opened we always wanted to offer a premium service without the pretentiousness,” says Rashaad Chenia.

Two years on his New York-inspired bar BRKLYN is a go-to for those seeking top-shelf gin and expert cocktails.

This weekend Chenia and team will mark their venue’s second birthday with a two-day party celebrating what they do best, with special guests Adelaide Hills Distillery behind the bar.

“We’ll have 78 Degrees as our house-pour gin for the entire weekend, so that’ll be used for all gin mixers and cocktails, as well as other discounts on our entire range,” says Chenia.

Friday night’s Gin and Jazz event will do what it says on the box, with gin specials and a live jazz band. Saturday will be more like a hectic Brooklyn apartment party, says Chenia, “We’re putting on a kind of all-star DJ line-up from our regulars – they’ll make it more of a party night.”

All cocktails on Saturday will be $14, including a 78 Degrees Negroni, 78 Degrees Martini, and a gin-based Old Fashioned.

The weekend will also double as the launch of BRKLYN’s new bar menu, featuring the long-awaited Philly Cheesesteak. “We’ve been playing around with it for a while and have put it out randomly sometimes,” says Chenia. “I know it’s not traditionally from New York, but after receiving really great feedback we really wanted to add our recipe to the new menu and give something back to our customers.”

A vegan option has also been added to the menu in the form of a balsamic-roasted portobello-mushroom hoagie. And what’s a New York-themed party without hot dogs? They’ll be available for $5. Regular menu items will also be available.

The barbershop will be open both nights, though it’ll close a little earlier on the Saturday so the man with the clippers can enjoy the festivities as well.

BRKLYN’s 2nd Birthday Gin & Cocktail Party is on Friday April 6 from 4pm and Saturday April 7 from 6pm.
