Madeleines come out of their shell
I’m calling it. Madeleines are having a moment. The petite French sponge cakes known for their scalloped shell shape and pillowy softness have been popping up on menus around town – as well as in top interstate restaurants such as Rothwell’s in Brisbane and Cumulus Inc in Melbourne. In Adelaide, they’ve appeared at two of our best – The Summertown Aristologist and Arkhe – and now they’re available at Anchovy Bandit, too, served with marsala and miso caramel. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

Bollinger and bouillabaisse at Silver Sands
Aussie chef Morgan McGlone (of Belles Hot Chicken fame) is stopping by Adelaide’s newest surf club Silver Sands Beach Club for an all-day takeover on August 28. He and head chef Alessandro Gramazio will prepare a three-course French feast – starting with oysters before moving on to bouillabaisse and a citrus tart – paired with champagne Bollinger and Bandol rosé, plus rare bottles and magnums from the vaults of esteemed wine distributor Andrew Guard and Silver Sands Beach Club co-owner Nick Stock. Fellow owner and operator Mark Kamleh will be spinning records alongside Papershell Farm’s Surahn Sidhu. Tickets are online, but they won’t last long.

Forage in a forest at a new food festival
Staying down south, the Fleurieu Food Festival debuts this month, bringing the area’s best winemakers, cheesemakers, brewers, farmers and chefs together to produce more than 50 events including degustation dinners, tours, markets, masterclasses and more. Guests can experience everything from fine dining in a Nangkita olive grove to farm tours and foraging in a forest. Find the full program online.

Introducing West Fest
Westside breweries Bowden Brewing, Big Shed Brewing Concern and Shapeshifter are coming together for a beer crawl – West Fest – on Saturday September 17. Expect more than 50 beers on tap across the day, including limited edition brews. There’ll also be food from Pearla Tuck Shop at Shapeshifter, Schnizza’s one-kilogram schnitzels at Big Shed, and Masa’s untraditional Mexican snacks at Bowden Brewing. Entry is free and there’ll be loop buses between breweries every half-hour, as well as live music and DJs at each stop. The event kicks off at 1pm – at any venue of your choosing – and will continue till late.

Italian-born Giorgio Linguanti has been handmaking burrata, mozzarella, ricotta and more since founding his Melbourne cheese factory That’s Amore in 2008. In 2019, he opened Cannoleria by That’s Amore – a sister business devoted to the iconic Sicilian dessert – in South Melbourne. Now, he’s bringing his cheesy goods to Adelaide for Cheese Fest in October. Expect a burrata bar and Linguanti’s signature Sicilian cannoli, a mix of sweet ricotta (made at his That’s Amore factory), cinnamon and crushed pistachio. Cheese Fest will run from October 14 to 16 at Rymill Park/ Murlawirrapurka.
