Australian Distilling Co uses local botanicals to make spirits named and inspired by cities in Australia. There’s the Brisbane Gin, Adelaide Vodka and Darwin Craft Gin, for example – all of which received awards at the recent San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2021.

The distiller claimed double gold for its lychee- and lime-led Gold Coast Gin at the awards. And its Rhapsody Ruby, Darwin Craft Gin and signature Australian Distilling Co Gin were also awarded gold.

It’s the second year the company has entered the international competition. The brand launched in 2018 with a distillery in Hackney, South Australia, producing an Adelaide Gin made with locally grown coriander and Kangaroo Island lavender and rose.

Since then, the range has expanded to include spirits inspired by scents and flavours of other Australian cities, and it has amassed 95 national and international awards so far, including Australian Distillery of the Year at the Berlin International Spirit Awards in 2019.

Australian Distilling Co now has plans to expand all over the country, starting with its recently opened Adelaide distillery in Stepney.

In a statement, founder Michael Hickinbotham says its team partners with distilleries across the country to produce its city gins, so the company is now investing in its own distilleries around Australia – with expansion planned for Darwin, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Geelong.

The new Adelaide distillery is already producing its Adelaide Gin, its signature range of peppery Shiraz Gin and an Australian take on the popular London dry style. You can order bottles from the company’s website, or from various bottle shops around the country.
