Adelaide favourite Monday’s Coffee Store is shutting up shop on Gawler Place. The team announced the news on social media this afternoon.

“The cat’s out of the bag,” the post reads. “We are closing our Galwer [sic] Place store at the end of September to make way for some bigger and better projects! It’s sad to say goodbye to an old friend, but what’s coming it [sic] better than we could have ever imagined. Monday’s was built here on some wonderful friendships and incredible customers. The best days are Mondays and there [are] plenty more coming!!”

It’s bittersweet news for many loyal customers, but Broadsheet is excited to see what comes next. Since opening on Gawler Place in 2015, Monday’s has been on a constant upward trajectory.

After two years serving coffee from Melbourne’s Small Batch Roasting Co, owner Jarrad Sharrock began roasting his own house blend and single-origin beans under the Monday’s brand. In 2018 he opened a second store in the foyer of Chesser House on Grenfell Street, which will continue to trade.

The Gawler Place flagship (which moved to the next-door site in 2018) will close at the end of the month. For now, Sharrock is keeping mum about his next move – save for a glimpse of a new, bare-bones tenancy on an Instagram story. We’ll update this story when we hear more.
