End of the Rainbow
State Theatre Company (STC) will pay tribute to Judy Garland in the 50th anniversary year of her death with international smash-hit End of the Rainbow, presented in June as part of Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
Written by Peter Quilter, the acclaimed play has been staged on Broadway and the West End in London, and nominated for multiple Tony and Olivier awards. It’s also been adapted for the upcoming film Judy starring Renée Zellweger.
The local production stars Helen Dallimore (the original Glinda in the West End production of Wicked) as Garland and tracks the star’s final months as she prepares for a series of concerts in London alongside her fifth husband and manager Micky Deans (Nic English), and accompanist Anthony (Stephen Sheehan).
The brightly funny and deeply moving play is also the directorial debut of STC resident artist Elena Carapetis (Gods of Strangers). It features 10 of Garland’s most loved songs, including Over the Rainbow, Get Happy and The Man That Got Away.
