Blend Your Own Wine With Penfolds
Not many wine lovers get a chance to deconstruct their favourite drop – let alone remix it with their own personal touch. But one of Australia’s oldest wineries has you covered.
RedBalloon is offering a day-trip in the Barossa Valley at Penfolds HQ. The two-person package includes an interactive 45-minute class where you will both develop your very own blend of red wine using grenache, shiraz and mataro – the three components of the winery’s perennially popular Penfolds Bin 138.
Inspired by the full-bodied wine blends of France’s Southern Rhône region, Bin 138 is sourced from Barossa Valley vines (some more than 100 years old) and then matured for at least a year in seasoned oak casks. So you’ll get all of that pedigree, but you’ll decide exactly how it turns out. You even get to take a bottle of your blend home.
It’s a chance to not just see how wine is blended, but along the way you’ll absorb some fascinating history and techniques from Penfolds, an icon of Australian wine-making founded more than 175 years ago.
From 10.30am to 2pm daily (except Christmas Day or Boxing Day).
