Following the good news that Womadelaide will return to its home ground in Botanic Park next year, the festival has today announced the first 30 acts on its 2022 line-up.

Adelaide-born Oz-music icon Paul Kelly, indie superstar Courtney Barnett and Yolngu rapper and 2019 Young Australian of the Year Baker Boy headline the (almost all-Australian) 30th anniversary program, which will run across seven stages from March 11 to 14.

Kelly, who performed at the inaugural Womadelaide in 1992 (and at the 1997 and 2006 festivals), returns with a catalogue spanning more than four decades and a legacy as one Australia’s greatest and most enduring artists.

Barnett will make her Womad debut off the back of her new album, Things Take Time, Take Time, which deepens her knack for turning minutiae into rich, lyrical snapshots of everyday life.

Young MC Baker Boy (aka Danzal Baker), who last performed at the festival in 2018, is nominated for three 2021 National Indigenous Music Awards and the J Award for Australian Album of the Year for his debut album, Gela.

He leads what the festival says is one of its strongest ever line-ups of First Nations musicians, including Emma Donovan & the Putbacks, King Stingray, Kutcha Edwards and Barkaa.

Also among the first 30 acts: local producer Motez, who will premiere a specially commissioned live project, and renowned folk-rock band Goanna, who will present their critically acclaimed album Spirit of Place 40 years on with First Nations collaborators.

They'll be joined by festival favourites Melbourne Ska Orchestra; L-FRESH The LION; the Shaolin Afronauts; and Electric Fields, who’ll perform with Antara singers and Tjarutja First Nations Dance Collective.

Festivalgoers (as well as performers and everyone else on-site) aged over 16 will need to be fully vaccinated to attend the 2022 event.

Womadelaide returns to Botanic Park from March 11 to 14, 2022. The next line-up announcement will be made in December. Tickets are on sale now.
